Our Story
No Silence on Race (NSOR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for inclusive Jewish spaces in Canada that reflect the rich cultural and ethnic diversity present within our communities and throughout our diasporic histories.
Launched in June 2020 as an open letter, No Silence on Race called on Canadian Jewish institutions to actively foster more inclusive and equitable environments that celebrate multi-ethnic Jewish identities. We sought to communicate a clear message: as a Jewish community, we cannot and must not remain silent on issues of race and racism.
The letter introduced 9 pillars, offering Jewish organizations a comprehensive framework for promoting inclusion. Over the next two years, signatories formed a Community of Practice—a group of leaders from various congregations, organizations, and institutions—who met monthly to exchange resources, develop action plans, and share best practices.
Today, No Silence on Race has evolved into a vibrant community of multi-ethnic and multi-racial Jews. Together, we explore Jewish identity, belonging, and history through community events, art exhibitions, and multi-media curriculum development projects. Our mission remains to create spaces where all Jewish voices are not just heard but celebrated.
